I have never liked unspoken rules and never
will.
Jungle rules.. |
I have lived in JP where there are multitude
of unwritten rules for everyone in general and women specifically. Everyone is expected
to behave in a certain way. Social interaction and interpersonal relationships
are all laden with such rules. One is supposed to do this or behave in such a
way because of one’s status, gender, position or whatever. And sadly, Chinese
societies like those in SG, MY and TW are not immune to these unspoken rules
too, although they might seemed to be less exorbitant than those in JP or KR.
I am fully aware of these unwritten rules in
the societies/circles I live in. I just refuse to be enslaved by them. I have no problem
offering common courtesy, basic etiquette and general respects whenever I
interact with people.
Life is too short, I won’t waste time conforming to
social expectation or peer pressure. If we are close, these things don’t matter
and I'm more than willing to go out of my way to help you. Else, I
don’t have the time and energy to waste on people who don’ matter. I’m not here
to win a popularity contest nor am I here to be everyone’s best friend.
The things I do, I do it because I want to.
Not because I am supposed to. If you want me to, tell me so, as I don’t want to waste my time playing by your unspoken rules.
