A new US of A

By the time we wake up next morning, a new US President would have been chosen.. would there be the first non-white President or the first female Vice-President? That would be left to the good citizens of America..

Whoever that is going to occupy the White House for the next 4 years would not have an easy time, unlike the current incumbent.. He would have his hands full, balancing the budget, tackling the economy, the handling of Iraq, the environment, the nuclear armament of Iran and N.Korea, the rising of China and India, and many more.. Let's hope the next US President would take a multilateral view that is more consultative and inclusive of international relationships.. Because when USA sneezes, the world catches the cold... After all, the earth doesn't just belong to the most powerful or the richest..

Personally, I would expect more of the same.. I don't really believe that Obama can bring much "change" or that McCain would do further "damage" to the country. For there to be changes and thus improvement/progress, there has to be sacrifices, which I don't foresee the Americans having the stomach to undertake it.. The financial turmoil these days is perhaps the first bitter medicine that the Americans had to swallow in the last 30 years because they are forced to, not because they voluntarily do so.. The deficit that the country had chucked up in the last 8-10 years is mind boggling to say the least.. Of course, I am more than glad to be proven wrong by Americans..
