Billions here and there...

Nowadays the preferred denominations for any projects or whatever, private or public, is "billions".. All the corporate losses, bailouts, budget and spending, stimulus packages, rescue packages, or whatever are all in "Billions".. "Millions" is no longer sufficed... Thus we read about the following news..

So will we be seeing multi-trillion projects/spendings/bailouts next?? A glimpse of a possibility.. US budget deficit to hit $1.2 trillon in FY2009

Just to put things into perspective, one million is 1,000,000 and one billion is usually meant 1,000,000,000 while one trillion is 1,000,000,000,000, although there is a different between long and short scales (as explained in Wikipedia).

So the governments happily tossing a few billions here and a couple of billions there, yet who is going to foot those millions/billions/trillions bills??? How did we arrived at this predicament??
