"Sirens" of the lambs

Although my sister is not working in the A&E (Accident & Emergency) department of the local hospital, but she and her colleagues has to attend to any patients that are sent by the A&E department.. As long as it is not broken limbs, any ailments pertaining head or main torso will be their responsibilities.. They have to take care of patients who are going or has gone through surgery, due to accidents or illness.. It will be their responsibility to take care of them until they are discharged, either with their caretakers or the undertakers..

Thus every time a siren is heard, I couldn't help but to think, "Another patient for sis.." And the occurrence of such sirens is unusually frequent, for a town like Taiping.. The fact that Taiping Hospital serves the whole of northern part of Perak meant that patients from Grik, Parit Buntar, Manong, Kuala Kangsar and many other smaller towns are sent to Taiping Hospital.. Thus, the expression "patients are streaming in like on conveyor belt" is no exaggeration. It is ironic that the Ipoh Hospital, being the largest hospital in Perak has less "business" compared to Taiping Hospital..

Why can't people be more careful while on the road? Why can't people follow traffic rules? Why can't people be more aware of their vehicles/driving? Why can't people be more patient and less selfish? Why can't people be more responsible for their own life? Why do people behave like lambs waiting to be slaughtered??

It is bad enough that the authorities are not doing anything about the rising crime-rates and the deteriorating public infrastructures.. we do not need to complicate matters further by indulging in reckless driving and unhealthy lifestyles.. No doubt that we now have easier access to medical care but why wait till we need to seek a cure when we could prevent it from happening in the first place??
